Patients with rheumatoid arthritis and acute stroke were worst off and patients with hip osteoarthritis and morbid obesity were best off. For each condition, the total length of the bar represents the remaining QALYs in absence of illness (QALEN). The red part of the bar represents the absolute shortfall of QALYs due to illness.
